The Texas Department of Health (TDH) created six area community planning groups to share in the responsibility for developing a State of Texas Comprehensive HIV Prevention Plan that meets the needs of communities at risk of or already infected with HIV. The East Texas HIV Prevention Community Planning Group (CPG) is charged with prioritizing the populations and interventions to be targeted for HIV prevention activities in 51 counties of East Texas (stretching from Texarkana to Bay City). This is a tremendous responsibility that could not be accomplished without the input and expertise of the affected communities and those interested in preventing the spread of HIV. As with other CPGs, the East Texas CPG relies on the generosity of individuals and agencies that volunteer their time, staff, and expertise in developing a plan that will reach those at risk for contracting HIV.
The East Texas
CPG is composed of:
Task Groups
Assembly Group
This two-tiered structure was created so that all CPG members did not have to attend every meeting and Task Groups could accomplish their goals in a manner most efficient for that group. Every member of the CPG is a voting member either at the Task Group or Assembly level. The Assembly meets physically at least quarterly in Lufkin (which is central to our area). Task Groups meet according to the schedule they develop. Everyone is welcome!
