About HPV

  • Human papillomavirus (HPV) is so common that almost everyone will be infected with HPV at some point in their lives. Although most HPV infections are asymptomatic, some persistent infections can lead to cancer in both men and women. HPV exposure can occur with any type of intimate sexual contact.
  • In the U.S., HPV infections cause over 17,000 cancers in women, and over 9,000 cancers in men each year.
  • Visit the CDC's site for clinicians for more information.
