HDHHS to honor medical providers with high immunization rates

The Houston Department of Health and Human Services will honor three medical providers and one of its health centers for exceeding a 90 percent rate of up-to-date immunizations among children in their patient caseloads.

The department will recognize Dr. Jan Drutz, Residents Primary Care Group at Texas Childrenís Hospital; Dr. Fernando Isart, Kidís N Teenís Clinic; Dr. Margaret Payne, Payne Pediatrics and the West End Health Center during a ceremony at 11 a.m. Monday, April 14, at the Marriot West Loop, 1750 West Loop South. The recognition is one of a weeklong series of events stressing the importance of childhood immunizations in observance of National Immunization Week, April 13-19.

It is recommended that children receive 80 percent of their lifetime vaccinations by age two, ensuring protection against potentially deadly diseases such as diphtheria, tetanus, pertussis (whooping cough), polio, measles, mumps, rubella, H. influenza type b, varicella (chicken pox) and hepatitis b.
