Provides information and assistance to residents regarding City services. Handles complaints and makes referrals to appropriate City departments.

Hours of service: Monday, Thursday and Friday 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.; Tuesday and Wednesday 10 a.m. to 7 p.m.; first, third and fifth Saturday, 7 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Provides supplemental dietary aide to pregnant women, breastfeeding mothers and infants/children with nutritional risk conditions.

YWCA Senior Citizens Program

YWCA programs include the following:

  • Daily transportation to center
  • Hot balanced meals served daily
  • Field trips and group travels to points of interest
  • Devotion guest speakers, every Tuesday, 11 a.m. to 11:45 a.m.
  • Community service programs - seniors visit nursing homes and work on various community projects
  • Health programs - guest speakers from different health agencies give information to seniors
  • Legal advice - a lawyer from the Houston Bar Association visits every other month and a community service attorney comes monthly to address legal questions for seniors in the community
  • Special programs - home repair and water fund are available
  • Art classes meet weekly with an instructor from the Glassell School of Art sponsored by the Museum of Fine Arts.
  • Walking/exercise classes meet daily

Harris County Department of Social Services

Provides financial assistance and services related to financial problems of individuals who have very limited or no resources. Grants usually provide food, shelter and utilities. Provides transportation and special services for qualified persons. Call 713.696.7900 for an appointment and please specify which office you would like to have your interview.

Harris County Juvenile Probation Department, CUPS I Unit

Provides probation services for children over the ages of ten (10) and under the age of seventeen (17) who have been adjudicated by one of the three district courts (313, 314, 315). Provides supervision for children who have been adjudicated by other courts outside of Harris County, as well as Texas. Other services include counseling, psychological evaluation, tutoring, educational workshops, family counseling, field trips and incentive programs.

Head Start is based on the premise that all children share certain needs and that children from low income families, in particular, can benefit from a comprehensive developmental program to meet those needs. The program should maximize the strengths and unique experiences of each child, which is the principal influence on the child's development, must be a direct participant in the program. The overall goal of Head Start is to bring about a greater degree of social competence in disadvantaged children. By social competence is meant the child's every day effectiveness in dealing with his environment and later responsibilities in school and life.

American Red Cross

Provides assistance to families of military personnel and victims of single-family disasters such as fires. This agency also provides a full range of Red Cross courses including CPR, First Aid, Water Safety and other health related courses. In addition to standard Red Cross courses, custom courses for special groups can also be developed.

Community Based Human Services programs and projects can be implemented by the center's administrative staff. These programs are constructed in conjunction with area residents, agencies, schools and other institutions. Provides a comprehensive array of services and activities having a measurable impact on the individual and family, provides support services, community workshops and leadership development. Provides the community with information about the Gulf Coast Community Services program.
