Women, Infants and Children (WIC)
Hours of operations: Mon./Tues./ Wed. 7:30 a.m.- 4:30 p.m. - Tues./Thurs. 10:00 a.m. - 7:00 p.m.

  • Approximately number of clients serviced monthly is 2200
  • Implements all services related to Women, Infants and Children in accordance with W.I.C. Guidelines
  • Children ages 0 to 5 are served
  • Supplemental Nutrition Program
  • Nutritional Education and Counseling
  • Referrals to physicians for expectant mothers and underweight or malnourished children or any health issues related to nutrition
  • Promoting breastfeeding
  • Screening Immunization records

Employee Assistance Program (EAP)
The City of Houston provides an EAP to help its City employees to deal with personal problems hours are Monday - Friday, 8:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m. and by appointment

  • Assessment and referrals
  • Short term consultation sessions
  • Crisis intervention
  • Training for employees and Supervisors

Mayor's Citizen Assistance Office
The office provides 10 satellite offices in the community & 1 located in City Hall

  • Address individual Citizen/Citizens concerns
  • To improve the quality of life for all Houstonians by promoting efficient & effective city services
  • Encourage Community involvement & participation
  • Supporting neighborhood revitalization efforts throughout the City of Houston

AARP Senior Employment Program
The staff consists of 8 part-time employees and hours of operation are from Monday - Friday, 9a.m. – 4:00 p.m.

  • Recruit Seniors (55 +) to come in for job assistance
  • Potential clients come in office, fill out papers, bring specific documents to see if they qualify for program
  • Job fairs are held in our community
  • Send selected clients to computer classes in area available free of charge
  • Refer non-clients to job interviews and at times placed them in jobs
  • Since some clients are raising their grandchildren, the need to consider clients working hours to coincide with their child care/health care obligation and transportation are necessary.

Neighborhood Centers, Inc./Senior Program
Hours of operation are Monday - Friday, 6:30 am - 3:00 pm/ No charge
Approx. number of clients served daily: 100-115

  • Provides daily meals (breakfast/lunch) for qualifying Senior Citizens
  • Provides a pleasant environment for socialization with other seniors with common
  • Telephone and home visits to the ill
  • Daily information and referral services
  • Weekly exercise programs (daily walking and aerobics classes)
  • Health screenings and education including hearing, vision, blood pressure and flu shots
  • Other recreation such as arts and crafts, trips and tours
  • Financial management information and assistance
  • Opportunity for political awareness

Child Care Council
Child Care Council of Greater Houston runs this Center
The Day Care Center provides services to low and middle income families.
Hours of operation are from Monday – Friday, 7:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m.

  • Approximately 50-75 clients are served per month.
  • Providing daycare services to children from 6 months to 6 years of age
  • Affordable weekly rates fees
  • Age-appropriate curriculum
  • Breakfast/lunch and snack daily
  • Monthly parent meeting/training.

Harris County Juvenile Probation
Deferred Prosecution is a diversion program to work with first-time, misdemeanor offender. Hours of operation are Mon.-Wed. / 7 a.m.-6 p.m., Tues.-Thurs. / 7a.m-8 p.m., Fridays, 7 a.m. – 5 p.m.

  • Approximately 14 active cases, supervised by nine Juvenile Probation Officers
  • Periods of supervision is six months and clients are between ages of 10 and 17 years old
  • Services provided include drug education, individual/family counseling, anger management, anti-shoplifting classes
  • Officers perform drug testing/refer clients to appropriate agencies
  • If other services are need (i.e. education, pregnancy, mental health)
  • Workshop hours are the 3rd Wednesday of each month, 6:00 p.m. – 7:00 p.m. & 1st and 3rd Saturday of each month, 9a.m. - 3p.m.

Gulf Coast Community Services Association
The hours of operations are Tuesday and Thursday, 8:00 a.m. - 4:00 p.m.

Spay-Neuter Assistance Program (SNAP)

  • Focuses solely on spaying and neutering of dogs and cats
  • Number to call for free spaying/neutering is (713) 522-2337
  • Low-cost clinic for those who do not qualify for the free "Clinic on Wheels"
  • Program is a cooperative initiative between SNAP and the West End MSC.
