Newly renovated Acres Homes Multi-Service Center to host grand re-opening

HOUSTON - The Houston Health Department will organize a grand re-opening for its newly renovated Acres Homes Multi-Service Center on Monday, July 1, from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m.
The community event will feature information for area residents about community agencies, resources and services available at the center, 6719 W. Montgomery Road. Houston Mayor Sylvester Turner, health department Director Stephen L. Williams and civic leaders will take part in a ribbon-cutting ceremony.
Center renovations totaling $2 million include new ceiling mounted projector, public address system, sprinkler system, stage curtain, marquee and floor bases and painting of the lobby, auditorium, fence and building exterior.
Health department services offered at the center are free nutritious foods and nutrition education through the Women, Infants and Children (WIC) program, Get Moving Houston Farmers Markets, public computer access and the Nurse-Family Partnership, a nurse home visitation program.
The center also houses the Mayor’s Citizens Assistance Office, Alcoholics Anonymous, Avance Community Empowerment, Avance Head Start, Change Happens, Congresswoman Sheila Jackson-Lee, Harris Center for Mental Health and IDD, Harris County Juvenile Probation, Houston Area Urban League, Houston Food Bank, Kidz Grub, L.I.F.E. Houston, Memorial Assistance Ministries and BakerRipley Senior Services.
