October 21, 2013 -- The Houston Department of Health and Human Services' (HDHHS) Bureau of Public Health Preparedness is conducting an emergency preparedness exercise Saturday, Nov. 2, from 9 a.m. to noon.
Volunteers are needed at each of three locations: Jones High School, Scarborough High School and Westside High School. The first 50 volunteers at each site will receive an emergency preparedness kit. Certificates of participation will be provided to those fulfilling community service hour requirements.
The exercise will simulate an emergency large enough to activate multiple local, regional, state and federal resources, including the Strategic National Stockpile, which maintains caches of certain medications and other medical supplies. Each community volunteer will represent his or her individual household, and will be asked to complete a medication screening questionnaire, and one for each family member.
Residents interested in volunteering may register online:
- Jones High School, 7414 St Lo Road, Houston, TX 77033 (primary site)
- Scarborough High School, 4141 Costa Rica St., Houston, TX 77092
- Westside High School, 14201 Briar Forest Dr., Houston, TX 77077
Those without Internet access may call 3-1-1 or 713-837-0311.
