Catch 5 for a Healthy Weight and Related Materials
Consultation procedures and materials were developed by the Houston Department of Health and Human Services with professional support from the Texas State WIC Nutrition Education Services. Other professionals instrumental during the project planning and implementation: Dr. Amalia Guardiola MD (Dept of Pediatrics University of Texas Health Science Center in Houston for getting the support from the Texas Pediatric Society Obesity Committee) and guidance throughout project planning and implementation; Dr: Bonnie Spear PhD, RD (School of Public Health, University of Alabama at Birmingham) for critiquing assessment and counseling tools and guidance on counseling techniques; Sara E. Barlow M.D., M.P.H (Baylor College of Medicine, Section of Gastroenterology, Hepatology and Nutrition); Jennifer Greenberg Seth, ScM (Kinesiology and Health Education, University of Texas at Austin and Talar Glover, MS, RN, CNS, CDE, Director of the Diabetes Service Line at the Harris County Hospital District in Houston, for guidance on the project evaluation process, as well as to Nancy Correa, MPH (The University of Texas Health Science Center at Houston) for assisting with development of recruitment surveys and suggestions to project implementation. Thank you to Liliana Santa Cruz for Spanish translation assistance. “Catch 5” project offers tools for low intensity, quick client-centered office based consultations with parents of overweight preschoolers. Handouts and posters can be used for educating parents of preschool age children in a variety of community and school settings. All Catch 5 materials are available in English and Spanish and can be downloaded below for free.
