300 UNIT, FACILITY MID-RISE RECEIVES $2.3 MILLION DOLLAR REHAB
Goldberg B'nai B'rith Towers Residents Celebrate Open House

April 29, 2007 - City of Houston's Housing and Community Development Department, Assistant Director Donald Sampley joined city council members, HUD officials, Board Members and residents for the Open House of Goldberg B'nai B'rith Towers at 10909 Fondren Road in Southwest Houston. The two Towers, nine (9) story buildings received a $2.3 million dollar Community Development Block grant from the City of Houston's Housing and Community Development Department for renovation. The Open House consisted of a program and tour. Special recognition was given to the following: HUD; Housing and Community Development Department; Max Uzick, Consultant and the Development committee members.

The Goldberg B'nai B'rith Towers is a national recognized Community of Quality by the National Affordable Housing Association (NAHMA).

" I applaud the efforts of Goldberg B'nai B'rith Board Members and residents for their untiring commitment to affordable housing. The Towers continues to enrich the lives of their residents and community," said Donald Sampley, Assistant Director.

Three hundred (300) units were remodeled including the common area kitchen, and restroom. The floor plans are as follows:

  • One Bedroom 550 sq. ft.
  • One Bedroom Accessible 550 sq. ft.
  • Efficiency 530 sq. ft.
  • Two Bedroom Accessible 750 sq. ft.

The facility is a HUD subsidized apartment project for the elderly and adults over the age of 18 who needs the features of an architecturally designed unit. Families who annual income that does not exceed eighty (80%) percent of the median income for the area, (as determined by HUD guidelines), may apply for these services.

Residents receive many services such as: meal program; on-site computer center; beauty shop; library; billiard room; coin-operated laundry; exercise equipment; English as Second Language (ESL) and other classes; and group activities.

The Goldberg B'nai B'rith Towers opened in 1978 and 1982. The Towers were built with funds from the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) under the 202 Loan Program. For more information, please contact: Charlotte Motely, Administrator at 713.771.2417.
