Homelessness Prevention and Rapid Re-Housing Program

On February 17, 2009, President Obama signed the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009, which includes $1.5 billion for a Homelessness Prevention Fund.  Under Title XII of the American Recovery and Re-Investment Act of 2009, the Homelessness Prevention and Rapid Re-Housing Program (HPRP) was created to provide financial assistance and services to either prevent individuals and families from becoming homeless or help those who are experiencing homelessness to be quickly re-housed and stabilized.  Funding for the HPRP is being distributed based on the formula used for the Emergency Shelter Grants program.  The City of Houston (City), through its Housing and Community Development Department (HCDD), is scheduled to receive $12,375,861 in HPRP funds and will work in partnership with City Departments and the Child Care of Greater Houston, Inc. to distribute the program funds.
