The City of Houston Employee Wellness Advisory Council (EWAC) was established in 1994 as an effort to encourage employee participation in recreational activities and healthy lifestyle choices.
Today, EWAC aims to foster a worksite culture that supports employees in making healthy lifestyle choices and assist with the promotion and delivery of Wellness programs among each City of Houston department.
EWAC consists of departmental representatives from each of the city’s departments.
EWAC members support the Wellness Program in multiple ways: participating as a resource for new wellness program ideas by communicating issues their department may face with regard to implementation of wellness programs, sharing wellness program information with employees within their department, and serving as a Wellness Ambassador – a wellness role model.
Are you interested in joining EWAC? Please send us an email at wconnection@houstontx.gov to learn more about how you can join!
Wellness Ambassadors serve as role models for their coworkers. A successful Wellness Ambassador is enthusiastic, able to bring the wellness program to life in their department, and has a willingness to generate and share ideas.
A Wellness Ambassador is expected to serve as a contact person for their department and serve as a resource person to provide wellness information for their department.
Wellness Ambassadors serve a critical role in ensuring that all employees are aware of wellness programming and requirements to earn a medical rate discount; they are also essential in encouraging greater participation in programs.
