He has been giving back to the community as a member of the American Red Cross Houston Chapter, the United Way, the Urban League, and other community organizations.

Mr. Russell’s BRAVO! Award exemplifies what hard work and dedication can accomplish. 

He is a truck driver in Public Works & Engineering’s right-of-way fleet maintenance division. He began as a laborer in the department’s ditch maintenance section in the storm-water maintenance branch. He soon acquired his commercial drivers license and transferred to the technical services section. There, his responsibilities increased considerably. He collected data from drainage systems to identify potential flooding problems. He mastered various tasks and honed the skills necessary to become a valuable team player. His dedication and hard work made him instrumental to the planning phase of the division’s first Field Employee Education Development Conference held this past spring. This conference focused on highlighting the importance of obtaining higher education for upward mobility in the city’s workforce.

Mr. Russell holds a bachelor’s of business administration and master’s of business management degree from the University of Phoenix.

He has been giving back to the community as a member of the American Red Cross Houston Chapter, the United Way, the Urban League, and other community organizations. He was a volunteer counselor during the Hurricane Katrina and Rita efforts. He volunteers at crisis centers, telephone help lines, the Houston Food Bank, and the Star of Hope Mission.

Damon is a deeply spiritual person and has been an ordained clergyman since 1997. He has received awards from the Billy Graham School of Evangelism and the Youth Ministers Alliance of America. He has served in the youth ministry of Kashmere Gardens Baptist Church for more than 15 years.

He is a Desert Storm veteran. A native Houstonian, he joined the U.S. Army right out of high school, serving with the Special Forces 91st Airborne Division.

Today he serves on the frontline for the city, delivering valuable services to our citizens.
