Officer Patrick Abercia
Police

When asked what part of his job gave him the most satisfaction, Officer Abercia said it was having the opportunity to give communities a higher quality of life.

Police Officer Abercia is a 21-year department veteran, currently serving on the Longpoint differential response team of the northwest patrol division. Officer Abercia is an absolute credit to HPD and the city of Houston. His tireless efforts have helped make Spring Branch a safer and happier community.

Frequently, I receive phone calls or comments from constituents complimenting the high level of customer service and detailed attention that Officer Abercia has provided to their particular concerns. I often call on his invaluable experience when I formulate public safety policies and craft ordinances to benefit our citizens

Officer Abercia has mentored youth through the Urban Scouting program. He has also volunteered with the following nonprofit organizations: the Boy Scouts of America; serving on the board of directors of the Texas Law Enforcement Rodeo Association; the Cruise for Smiles Toy Drive; and the YMCA Youth Soccer Program.

He is also involved with Commissioner El Franco Lee’s Street-Olympic Kids Program; the Heights Chamber of Commerce Charities; the Houston Live Stock Show and Rodeo / Go Texan Committee; the Law Enforcement Torch Run Special Olympics; the Houston Hispanic Forum; Saint Patrick’s Church 5-K Fun Run; the Annual Houston Law Enforcement Day; the United Way Gatekeepers and the East Side YMCA.

Officer Abercia has assisted with many special projects. He has twice testified before the State House of Representatives and State Senate Judiciary Committee regarding the illegal sale of motor vehicles practice known as “curb stoning.” His insightful testimony lead to the city’s municipal courts securing jurisdiction over portions of the Texas Transportation Code, allowing our officers to enforce and file violations with the City of Houston Municipal Courts and crackdown on “curb stoning” issues.

When asked what part of his job gave him the most satisfaction, Officer Abercia said it was having the opportunity to give communities a higher quality of life.

We present this BRAVO! Award to Officer Patrick Abercia.
