Ms. Adams exemplifies the spirit of volunteerism. Her colleagues refer to her as the “quiet giant” when it comes to giving.

Ms. Adams is a microcomputer analyst who, her supervisors say, puts a 110-percent effort into everything she does. Ms. Adams is very conscientious in providing excellent customer service. There was an instance when the Sterling Municipal Library needed her expertise and she was there by 7 a.m. before anyone got there, getting the job done so the branch would be ready to serve citizens.

Ms. Adams exemplifies the spirit of volunteerism. Her colleagues refer to her as the “quiet giant” when it comes to giving. She is constantly looking for opportunities to improve the HPL community, as well as the Houston community at large and regularly contributes to charities, choosing to do so anonymously.

Recently, an HPL employee was killed in a car accident, leaving behind three sons. Denise helped with the formation of a trust fund and made the first donation.

She is a regular volunteer and contributor to the American Cancer Society, the City of Houston’s Neighborhood Improvement Project, the American Diabetes Association and many other noteworthy charities. She also volunteered her time and energy helping Katrina evacuees and feeding the homeless during Thanksgiving. Ms. Adams also coordinated a toy drive, collecting more than 40 toys for three needy families adopted by her department for the Christmas holidays. And she contributes five percent of her annual salary to the Combined Municipal Campaign, while specifically requesting that she receive no acknowledgement.

Ms. Adams is invaluable when it comes to special projects. She has always been an ambassador to the Houston Area Library Automated Network board and the Harris County Freeman Branch staff, getting the new Millennium circulation software installed and configured correctly.

Director Rhea Brown Lawson said that Ms. Adams embodies the definition of integrity, always looking to aid any employee she can. Dr. Lawson said, “Blood, sweat and tears are put into everything Denise does for her community as well as the HPL. It’s just her nature to always lend a helping hand.”

We present this BRAVO! Award to Denise Adams.
