George Allen
IT

His supervisor, Mark Whitt, said that George is an administrator’s “lifesaver.”

After 21 years service in the Air Force, Mr. Allen joined the city in November 1999 as a temporary employee in Human Resources. Two months later he was already a senior microcomputer analyst in the Information Technology organization.

This was before IT had become a department, which wasn’t until 2003.

Today, George is IT’s senior central-network administrator, serving as the project manager in the systems services division and providing hands-on leadership in getting the new Enterprise Resource Planning system up and running smoothly,

His supervisor, Mark Whitt, said that George is an administrator’s “lifesaver,” who brings total commitment to his job and is instrumental in the installation of the new SAP servers supporting the ERP project.

Mr. Allen mentors and trains his seven-member staff, and is an instructor for CAPS I coaching and counseling, and Caps II project management. He is a motivational speaker at church youth organizations around the city as well as a volunteer IT consultant for his own church.

Mr. Allen said he loves his job because computers and the city both serve people and he couldn’t imagine doing anything else.

We present this BRAVO! Certificate to George Allen.
