Capt. Garcia leads the D-shift’s suppression and rescue division at Fire Station 42. He joined the Fire Department in 1982 and has since initiated many worthwhile programs, helping thousands of citizens in Houston and other regions of the country as well as our neighbors in Mexico.
In 1994, Capt. Garcia started Houston’s Spanish CPR Task Force has since trained thousands of our Spanish-speaking citizens in CPR at annual mass-training events. He still coordinates these training functions. He also taught the first structural firefighting and vehicle extrication class in Spanish.
In 2005, Capt. Garcia founded the Traveling Disciples, a Christian organization providing humanitarian relief to low-income residents. In June, he visited 14 churches across four states in a 20-day mission, conducting Christian youth rallies. As part of his youth ministry, he personally led 10 teenagers on a hiking trip into the Grand Canyon and back out again.
In fact, when Capt. Garcia was notified he had won a BRAVO! Award on the Friday before the Labor Day weekend, he was driving a trailer to orphanages in Rio Bravo, Mexico, bringing a 2,000 pounds of food, clothing and toys.
He is currently a member of many non-profit organizations and has been the driving force for the annual Christmas Dream Giveaway that donates furniture to needy families.
