Michael P. Martinez
HPD

Citizens, supervisors and co-workers have consistently recognized Mr. Martinez as an excellent example of what an HPD civilian employee should be.

Senior community liaison Michael Martinez joined the community outreach division in 1992 and the public affairs division in 1998. During those years, citizens, supervisors and co-workers have consistently recognized Mr. Martinez as an excellent example of what an HPD civilian employee should be. Again and again, Mr. Martinez has worked after-hours attending to the concerns of citizens, including: heavy-trash pick-up campaigns, graffiti abatement and taking action against a problem “cantina” blighting a neighborhood.

Among the many citations acknowledging the contributions of Mr. Martinez, he has received: a Chief of Police Unit Citation for superior community-outreach efforts; a Chief of Police Commendation and a Certificate of Recognition from Council Member Adrian Garcia for abating a longtime public nuisance “cantina;” a Chief of Police Commendation for managing Graffiti & Clean Sweep programs; a Chief of Police Commendation for coordinating the annual March on Crime parade; and … the list goes on and on. Suffice to say, that Mr. Martinez delivers high-quality services for the community.

Outside the department, Mr. Martinez founded and continues to organize the Latinos Unidos Organization of Houston, a non-partisan, community-based organization dedicated to increasing the Hispanic community’s involvement in Houston civic life. He initiated and coordinated the Annual Youth Workshop motivating 200 teens to achieve their full potential.

Mr. Martinez, father of Alicia, 9, and Anyssa, 7 months, is also a Marine Corps veteran, who served with distinction as an embassy security guard in Asia and Africa.

We proudly honor Michael P. Martinez with this Bravo Award.
