Alvita McKinney
Affirmative Actio

Alvita McKinney shines like a beacon as she helps desperate citizens find the resources they need.

Alvita McKinney of Affirmative Action has inspired a new phrase: Legendary Customer Service. As a constituent relations coordinator in the Mayor's Office for People with Disabilities, she shines like a beacon as she helps desperate citizens find the resources they need.

Ms. McKinney has become an expert at helping people with disabilities with their housing, employment, accessibility and health needs. Because of her, they come closer to the freedom of self-sufficient, fulfilling lives.

Often at about 6 p.m., when many city employees are already home, she is still in her office at 611 Walker providing hope for those whose spirits are down, or she is out in the field comforting them. You could paper every inch of her office walls with the thank-you notes she has received.

Her generosity continues even when she is not at work. She donates 3 percent of her city paycheck to the Combined Municipal Campaign, and for 11 years, has provided math tutoring to economically disadvantaged children.

For her generosity and her outstanding work in the disability community, we present Alvita McKinney with the Bravo Award
