Arthur Medina
Municipal Courts

Dr. David Persse, Houston’s emergency medical services director, recognized Mr. Medina’s quick and selfless actions, calling them a testimonial to his dedication to others.

Arthur Medina is a 1-year employee who is also a lifesaver. In September, a 6-month-old girl in a parking lot near the municipal courts building stopped breathing. The infant’s mother frantically told Mr. Medina she was limp and appeared to be turning blue. Within minutes, he had restored her breathing.

Dr. David Persse, Houston’s emergency medical services director, recognized Mr. Medina’s quick and selfless actions, calling them a testimonial to his dedication to others.

During his first month with the city, Tropical Storm Allison presented Mr. Medina with an overwhelming task. Floodwaters were rushing in and rising in the municipal courts building. Mr. Medina volunteered to remove salvageable materials from the basement. Because the elevators were not working, he carried heavy items up the stairs from five courtrooms, 13 offices and three workspaces.

Since 1992, Mr. Medina has served as a first-degree knight for St. Helen’s Catholic Church in Pearland. He gathers food and clothing donations for the homeless and helps with other community projects. Since 1996, he has also served as a volunteer firefighter for the South Belt Community Fire Department.

For his superb work ethic, volunteer efforts and shining example of a person who steps forward during a crisis, we proudly present Arthur Medina with the Bravo Award.
