As manager in the library’s thriving community volunteer and involvement office, Ms. Mitchell is always promoting and setting an example for outstanding customer service. Interim Director Toni Lambert calls her the consummate cheerleader, exuding enthusiasm and passion for all she does. She always expresses appreciation and respect for those around her and has a dedication to superior job performance that could serve as a role model for employees and managers alike.

Ms. Mitchell serves as community liaison to Super Neighborhood #42, providing customer service at its best.

Last year, Ms. Mitchell’s outstanding performance was recognized with the Houston Public Library’s award as the Employee of the Year in Administration.

Ms. Mitchell is active in volunteer work at the library and in the community. When several staff members lost their homes in Tropical Storm Allison, she provided leadership to the recovery effort through the Staff Helping Hand initiative. She also works with the Youth Volunteer Program, and was formerly the chairperson of We Care/College Care Program. And is a volunteer for Re-building Houston Together.

As the library’s Combined Municipal Campaign’s coordinator, she donates one percent of her annual salary.

Her knowledge and zeal is supplemented with a master’s degree in public administration.
