Guiding Lights

Lance Lindsley
Fire
When a house fire broke out in their neighborhood, Lance Lindsley and his family pitched in to help, wrote Friendswood Police Chief Robert Wieners

“I witnessed you working the pumper truck, hauling fire hoses and facilitating management of the scene,” Wieners wrote. Lindsley’s two daughters offered water and Gatorade to the firefighters.

“Your family’s actions are a fine example of community spirit, unselfishness and willingness to help others,” Wieners wrote.

Anna Russell
City Secretary
Tom McKinney was researching a dissertation on the Gulf Freeway when he contacted Anna Russell to examine City Council minutes. Russell not only told McKinney what information she had, but she also suggested other departments that might have additional sources.

“Her interest in my project was unexpected and is deeply appreciated,” McKinney wrote. Other citizens also got the same treatment from Russell and her staff.

“In short, they are a very friendly group and they made my time there enjoyable,” he wrote.

Lois Falk
Library
Joanne Einhorn misses Lois Falk, who transferred from the Kendall Branch to the Looscan Branch Library.

Falk created Kendall’s mystery book club and always selected interesting books for the more than 50 people who attended the club monthly, Einhorn wrote. Falk also organized speakers and arranged for book club members to get the books.

“As a testament to her knowledge, expertise and can-do attitude, quite a number of us are planning to go to her new branch in order to continue the mystery book club,” Einhorn wrote.

James Waltmon
Police
A flat tire stopped Nicole Crawford’s car on Interstate 10. Crawford, a nurse on the night shift, called her supervisor at East Houston Regional Medical Center to say that she would be late for work.

After many calls to other nurses, hospital administrator Jeanna Barnard couldn’t find anyone to cover Crawford’s shift. Sgt. James Waltmon, who was picking up extra hours at the hospital, offered to drive over and change the tire, Barnard wrote. Soon, Crawford was at work.

“This officer is truly an example of going above and beyond and should be acclaimed for his actions,” Barnard wrote.

Fire
Rodney Thomas’s car sputtered and stopped as it pulled through the intersection at Jeanetta and Westheimer, across from Fire Station 60.

Firefighters Rick Hernandez, George Kantis, Ibrahim Haidar, Sally Trimble, Vincent Garcia, Matthew Hando, Tim Rodriguez, and Robert Miller walked to Thomas’ car and pushed it to a service station across the street.

“What impressed me the most was the sincerity they placed in their efforts to serve a community member,” Thomas wrote. “Capt. Hernandez took it a step further by offering me a ride to work and gave me a call to see if everything went okay with the car.”
