Customer Service Excellence

E. White
Police
Elinor McEleney put her bag down on a counter at Bush Intercontinental Airport, added cream to her coffee, and walked away.

Before long, she realized she’d left her bag behind. When she returned, it was gone.

She checked the upstairs lost-and-found bin and the one at Continental, but she didn’t see the bag, which contained her makeup and medicine.

“Needless to say, I was a wreck,” she wrote.

As a distraught McEleney walked toward the gate, Officer E. White approached with her bag.

“I was so delighted,” she said. “Don’t know how he found me, but he did.

“He put a smile on my face, and I am so thankful he went out of his way to get the bag to me.”

Chinh Alex Nguyen
Public Works & Engineering
Kudos, kudos, and kudos to Chinh Alex Nguyen.

“I had a great experience when I got helped by Mr. Nguyen,” stated Mary Ellen Henning. “I’m grateful for the service.”

Nguyen provided her with outstanding customer service, said Venecia Washington. “He was very patient and pleasant.”

“Mr. Nguyen did a great job,” Mabel Johnston said. “He was very thorough and professional, not to mention very nice.”

David Curry
Police
Christine McMahan desperately wanted to talk to her son after he was arrested for an outstanding traffic ticket.

She called the Westside Police Station’s non-emergency number and talked to Officer David Curry. “Officer Curry was kind, patient and informative, and never indicated, by word or tone, that he was too busy or that he was being inconvenienced by the call.”

Her son’s ticket was issued by the county, so he’d been transferred to a county jail, McMahan wrote. The rest of the experience tracking him down was frustrating, but Curry’s professionalism was a bright spot.

“Thanks for the great service, Officer Curry. If all officers exhibited such common courtesy when interacting with the public, I daresay the level of respect for and confidence in law enforcement agencies would be considerably higher.”

John Baines, Kevin Hamilton, Tracy Samuels
Public Works & Engineering
“Each time John Baines, Kevin Hamilton and Tracy Samuels came out to investigate a request, they were professional, courteous and extremely knowledgeable,” wrote Debbie Allen, president of the Pleasantville Environmental Coalition.

“They even took the time to break down the information and explain why, how, when, what, how one action would cause another reaction, the root of the problem, and what it would take to resolve the problem. However, they never made you feel that they are above you.

“After listening to either one of these guys, you would leave almost speechless and certainly full of information. If they find the problem is not related to their department, you let you know.

“This is all any community could request.”

Alana Prudhomme
Solid Waste Management
“Alana Prudhomme does a great job and has cheerfully greeted me for years,” wrote Jeffrey Mermilliod, who frequents the Westpark Recycle Center.

“Her warm disposition has made my transactions with her a pleasure, and I always felt as though I got great service even though she has to deal with a revolving door of temp help.”

Angela Davis
Municipal Courts Administration
Angela Davis is an example of what city employees should be, wrote paralegal Lateasha Kelley.

“I have contacted Ms. Davis several times throughout the past several months regarding court dates, issues, etc., and she has always been helpful and gone the extra mile to explain the court procedures,” Kelley wrote.

“She displays honorable customer service, which is rare these days. What she’s really doing is community service. If I were to start my own company, I would hire Angela.”

Pamela Pineda
Police
Pamela Pineda exhausted every effort helping him complete necessary paperwork, wrote former police chief C. O. Bradford.

“I realize that clients of the human resources division don’t always take the time to write when things are handled promptly and correctly,” he wrote. “With employees like Ms. Pamela Pineda working in the department, you can rest assured that clients are receiving professional, friendly and dependable service.

“It is the service rendered by employees like Ms. Pineda that makes me and others very proud to be a part of the Houston Police Department.”
