D.E. Scales

Police
Officer D.E. Scales arrested Gregory Joe for failure to pay for tickets and failure to appear in court.

But Scales’ consideration made the experience much better than it could have been, Joe wrote.

“He called one of my friends to pick up my car, loosened the tight handcuffs at my request and made me feel comfortable during a nerve-racking experience,” Joe wrote. “HPD still has some ‘good ole officers,’ and Officer Scales is an exemplary example of one.”

Shirley Singletary

Shirley Singletary was extremely helpful, wrote Ida Davis.

“The help I’ve received from her is priceless. Please keep her at the Johnson location,” Davis wrote.

Andrea Moore, Lisa Swan

She would not have been able to finish her project without Andrea Moore’s and Lisa Swan’s help, wrote Tommie Jean Newsome.

“Their highly knowledgeable expertise was a real help,” she wrote.

Connie Rose
Library
Connie Rose’s great customer service pleased George Dann.

“The library should have more like her,” he said.

Alice Dooley

“She was, however, very kind and patient. I don’t think she could have been more pleasant,” Parr wrote.

Melonie Curry
Convention & Entertainment Facilities
The city has an excellent parking staff at the George R. Brown Convention Center, wrote Matthew Stahlbaum.

“In particular, Melonie Curry is a wonderful employee and helped me tremendously in more ways than I could ever thank her for,” Stahlbaum wrote. “She is truly an asset to the city and her office.”

Treva Jones
Public Works & Engineering
Contemporary Medicine Associates evaluated a city employee for an FMLA second opinion, wrote CEO Susan Degner. The case was a complicated medical one with many communication challenges.

Treva Jones assisted the patient, Degner, and her staff in a highly professional manner, Degner wrote. When another problem popped up, Jones resolved it.

“Ms. Jones is a credit to your department,” she wrote. “We appreciate the exceptional courtesy she showed us.”

Georgia Owens
Library
Georgia Owens has made the mystery book club at the Kendell branch library fun and instructive, wrote Dorothy Priger. The monthly meetings have featured panel discussions, a live drama, speakers, and book reviews.

Priger and her husband became regular members and have even begun sharing their own reviews.

“After years away from the library, we’re back and having a blast,” Priger wrote. “Thank you for this super lady who cheerfully gives so much back to our community.”

Laura Jones
Public Works & Engineering
Laura Jones is always able to help her when she calls the permitting office, wrote Beth Bishop. In fact, Jones is the only one in the permitting office Bishop goes to for help. If Jones doesn’t answer the phone, Bishop asks for her and Jones calls back within hours.

“She’s always eager to assist me, whatever the question or problem, and she’s very knowledgeable,” Bishop wrote.

David Sims Jr.
Public Works & Engineering
Paula Byrne gave David Sims Jr. kudos for being an outstanding city employee.

“Mr. Sims was informative and went above and beyond to provide excellent customer service,” Byrne wrote.

Charles Burchard
Library
Charles Burchard was courteous, patient and informative while helping him access information online, wrote Carl Lowery.

“He gave me exceptional assistance,” Lowery wrote. “Mr. Burchard personifies the spirit of customer service.”

Toy Denman, Rory Lister, Ronald Randle
Public Works & Engineering
When water bills were higher than they should have been, the managers at the Noche Apartments contacted the city. In 2006, the complex’s water meters had had a malfunction, and the managers thought it was the same thing this time, wrote Patti Chemali, managing partner.

But after new meters were installed, the water bills remained high. Further investigation showed a leak. While that was being repaired, another leak in the sewer line was discovered, Chemali wrote.

During this month-long process, Toy Denman kept her informed and contacted her to check on the progress of the repairs, Chemali wrote. Denman was professional, courteous and understanding.

Ronald Randle and Rory Lister came to the property to recheck the meter, Chemali wrote.

“My faith is restored that there are people who still care and take pride in providing excellent customer service like Toy, Ronald and Rory provided,” she wrote.
