Paulette McCan received excellent service from Erika Huerta.

“She’s very good at her job,” McCan said.

Yancyne Goosby
Public Works & Engineering
Tim McGonigel’s water bill was high. In fact, it was 10 times the amount it usually is, he wrote.

Because his house didn’t have plumbing problems, leaks, or a swimming pool, there’s no way his family would have used more than 200,000 gallons in a month. That should be easy to prove, he thought.

He was wrong.

For weeks, he was tangled up in red tape. Just when he thought it was sorted out, an overdue notice came. He was about to complain to Mayor Bill White when he met Yancyne Goosby.

She made all the difference, McGonigel wrote.

“Ms. Goosby immediately set about getting the answers I needed,” he wrote. “She took the time to listen, sorted through the details, and proceeded to guide me toward a resolution.

“I know the Public Works Department serves thousands of customers each month and each one has a story. It takes a certain expertise to get to the facts, and Yancyne Goosby has the right skills to take care of business and solve problems.”

Eric Thompson has been very helpful,” wrote Evelyn McKenna. “He’s really gone above and beyond his job.”

Tolan Harding
Police
Sgt. Tolan Harding rushed Philip Wesol’s dog to the vet after it was bitten by a copperhead snake, wrote Philip Wesol.

“Minnie is now on antibiotics and is doing fine,” Wesol wrote. “Thanks to Sgt. Harding’s decisiveness, she will not suffer from anything more than a very sore and swollen foot.

“He went above and beyond his job, and we sincerely appreciate his help.”

Bobby Kessler, Denis Matties, John Nichols
Police
Terry Olson and her husband hired a friend to drive their truck and 20-foot trailer from Oregon to Florida. A few days later, Officer John Nichols called to tell them the friend had run over something and torn the left axle and wheels off the trailer.

The friend hadn’t gotten into an accident, but the officers were taking him to the hospital because something was wrong with him, Olson wrote. Unbeknownst to the Olsons, their friend had some severe medical problems.

The officers also moved the truck to a secure location and contacted a company to tow the trailer, Olson wrote.

The next day, Olson talked to the towing company trying to get the trailer moved and repaired. While doing that, she called Nichols several times to get additional details, including where they should send the trailer.

Over the next two days, Nichols, Bobby Kessler and Denis Matties even checked on Olson’s friend during his two-day hospital stay, Olson wrote.

“The service provided by these officers was so refreshing in this day and age,” she wrote. “This type of incident is stressful, and the compassionate, effective and professional service that was provided to us and our friend was wonderful.

“Saying ‘thank you’ just doesn’t seem like enough.”

Stacy Romano
Police
Officer Stacy Romano found Debra Banks’ cell phone after it fell out of her purse at the Baybrook Mall.

Romano called the last number dialed, which was Banks’ husband. Then, Romano drove the phone over to his office, Banks wrote.

“I very much appreciated this kindness,” Banks wrote. “Officer Romano saved me a lot of trouble and time.”

Mike Kisinger, Alex Roberson, Franco Rodriguez
Public Works & Engineering
The master electrician working on a construction project on Crosstimbers didn’t call for an inspection on time, wrote Clifford Jackson, a contractor overseeing the project. Fortunately, Mike Kisinger, Alex Roberson, and Franco Rodriguez worked a little extra to allow them to finish the project on schedule.

Rodriguez visited the site, researched the pertinent codes and called him back with the results of his research, even though it was a Saturday, Jackson wrote.

“I have been a general contractor since 1961 and have had very few Saturday inspections in that time,” he wrote. “I attempted to keep this one from being necessary. However, these three employees made it a totally pleasant and productive experience.”

Nydia Vega
Municipal Courts Judicial
Kristine Schwan Primrose normally only practices law in Dallas, but she agreed to help a church friend suffering from cerebral palsy with some legal problems in Houston. She wasn’t quite sure how to navigate these courts, though, Primrose wrote.

Nydia Vega took the time to give us accurate information and direct us to the proper people,” Primrose wrote. “Ms. Vega always did what she promised, and she always kept us well informed of the status of our case.

“Furthermore, Ms. Vega was always courteous and professional. She obviously had been well-trained and is a fine representative of the Houston court system.”
