Legal department provides "Service through Law"

The Legal Department analyzes most city business. Department staff studies ordinances and bid proposals to ensure legal and ethical integrity. They also consult with city departments and support them with legal analysis and direction. Additionally, legal advises the mayor and departments on issues that involve the city as a partner in an enterprise, such as forming the corporation that issued bonds to build the Hilton Americas Hotel, a vital project in the city’s future Other civic projects that involved the department include the George R. Brown Convention Center expansion, the Toyota Center, Bayou Place, the Hobby Center and the Houston Zoo privatization. The department has also demonstrated its commitment to the overall quality of life in Houston by developing ordinances regarding billboards, tree landscaping, historic preservation, an ongoing civic art program, clean air standards, and the homebuilders’ incentive program that keeps the price of new homes more affordable for first-time home buyers. I am extraordinarily proud of the legal staff and the fine job they do representing city departments. The legal staff is truly dedicated to the citizens of Houston as they continue to provide “Service Through Law.”
