Neena Bansal
Public Works & Engineering
When a construction company installed sewer lines and manholes in his neighborhood, workers tore up Stan Silverman’s backyard. Then they left without replacing the mangled grass.

After a month of trying to get the company to replace the grass, Silverman called the city for help. Neena Bansal took up his cause and convinced the company to repair the damage, Silverman said.

“I appreciate this fine person for going to bat for me and helping to bring a resolution to this annoyance,” he wrote.

Judy Ayers
Convention & Entertainment Facilities
When Jane Touchstone and four friends couldn’t find her vehicle after a recent concert in Jones Hall, Touchstone called Judy Ayers. By that time, Touchstone and her friends were the only audience members left in the hall.

Ayers called for a shuttle that picked them up at the garage tunnel entrance, Touchstone wrote.

“Judy was so helpful. She really went above the call of duty with a great attitude.”

“Your Web page with services for Katrina refugees is amazing,” wrote Sheila. “I compliment you on quickly meeting these people’s needs.

Johnny Raia
Planning & Development
The help she got while obtaining permits from the city impressed Nancy French of Deco Diner.

Regina Otu has been tremendous and has gone above her duties time and again for us,” French wrote. “Duane Wicker was also a great help, and Johnny Raia is always there for us.

“Support from people who truly want to help makes this process so much better and easier. We have been fortunate to have many people at the city help us, but these three truly stand out.”

R.J. Ross
Police
Officer R.J. Ross was compassionate and professional with a girl who reported being sexually assaulted, wrote Andrea Alexander, assistant manager of the apartment complex where the girl lived.

The girl gave Ross a description of the suspect and said she remembered seeing him around the complex, Alexander wrote. Ross remembered seeing someone matching that description. He drove the girl to the back of the complex where he’d seen the man. The man was still there. The girl identified him and Ross arrested him.

“I recently heard that the man was charged with two very serious crimes besides this one,” Alexander said. “I know in my heart that if Officer Ross had not arrested this man, many other of my residents would have been in danger.

“The public should be proud that we have policemen like Officer Ross who do an outstanding job.”

Demetral Williams
Public Works & Engineering
When Tom Steinweg of Steinweg Homes didn’t receive the storm water reservation letter he’d expected, he called Demetral Williams. Talking to her was a privilege, Steinweg wrote.

“Ms. Williams listened patiently and said she’d try to get to the bottom of this,” he wrote. Then Williams put him on hold. Soon, she returned and said she had the letter.

“I appreciated the extra effort and kindness she showed me,” Steinweg wrote.

Joy De La Isla
Library
Joy De La Isla is the friendliest person I have ever talked to at the library,” J.R. Jones wrote. “Her attitude is most commendable.”

De La Isla efficiently gathered the information he sought, Jones wrote.

“I am 76 years old, so I am not trying to curry favor with this young lady,” he wrote. “I call ‘em as I see ‘em.”
