While storm drains were being repaired in the neighborhood, Jennie Blevins of the Regency Square Improvement Association made several requests through 311. Everyone who responded was wonderful, Blevins wrote.

Of particular help was Elroy Morrison, who came to her office and was “so pleasant and agreeable.”

“He explained everything in detail and got the job done,” Blevins wrote.

Gary Booker, Joseph Matas
Police
Detectives Gary Booker and Joseph Matas arrested a man involved in a fraudulent credit card scheme in St. Louis, wrote Thomas Kelly, of the U.S. Secret Service.

Booker and Mata learned that the man, who was booked for a flight out of Houston, was wanted for fraud in Harris County. They also learned he was involved with the scheme in St. Louis, in which he’d allegedly stolen more than $100,000.

Maintaining contact with the St. Louis branch of the Secret Service, Booker and Mata investigated the man and arrested him on state charges. He’ll soon be turned over on federal charges, Kelly wrote.

“It is our belief that the partnerships the Secret Service has with state and local law enforcement agencies are uniquely strong and form the basis of our success,” he wrote. “Detectives Booker and Mata exemplified that cooperative spirit.”


Roy McCloud

David Garcia of Farmers Insurance wanted to comply with the city’s sign guidelines, but he was fuzzy on what those guidelines were. Roy McCloud clarified the rules and made sure he hung his signs right, Garcia wrote.

“Many times, we lose sight of the good work that city personnel provide to citizens,” Garcia said. “I can only say that Mr. McCloud has been a good public official and a decent person to work with through this maze of details.”

Michael McNamara printed out a job application and showed Elissa Valdez the city’s Web site and how to navigate it. When she needed more information, he was quick to provide it, Valdez wrote.

“I am most grateful,” she wrote.

Willette Jennings

Jan Stuecker wanted to know if the city could send someone to pick up the mattresses, couches, and furniture dumped in a vacant lot near her home, and whether someone could post a “No Dumping” sign.

Within days, Willette Jennings called Stuecker to talk about getting the rubble cleaned up. Then, Jennings e-mailed her information about getting a sign and Stop Trashing Houston bumper stickers and decals.

“Thank you very much for taking the time to respond,” Stuecker wrote. “I’ll pick up those signs Friday.”

Angela Davis
Municipal Courts
After incorrect information was entered on her son’s driver’s license, Linda Alonzo Saenz spent more than a week trying to get it corrected.

Then she reached Angela Davis. A day later, the problem was corrected.

“She was very helpful and professional. I am grateful that the city has employees who are willing to show genuine concern and assistance in a timely manner,” Saenz wrote.

Benchmark Worldwide Transport decided to rebuild its complex after a fire. But to do that, it had to relocate and upgrade its water meter. Max Nielson went to Public Works to pay for the meter and have the work order placed for a plumber to tap into city lines.

Nielson waited just 10 minutes before Diane Sellers helped him complete his application. Then he paid Peggy McGuire for the meter.

Within 30 minutes of his arrival, Nielson was leaving the building.

“These people deserve a pat on the back. They were very cordial and extremely efficient,” Nielson wrote. “It surprised me a bit, as that department seems quite busy.”
