John Gonzalez
Convention & Entertainment Facilities
This year’s Texas Safety Conference & Expo went beyond its organizers expectations, and John Gonzalez is one of the reasons, wrote Tammy Washington, meeting and event planner for the National Safety Council.

“All your support and professional expertise was essential to the success of the expo,” Washington wrote.

Teresa Valle
Convention & Entertainment Facilities
“I could never have imagined a time when I would write the mayor of Houston THANKING him for a parking ticket, but Teresa Valle made the difference with the entire ticket ordeal,” wrote Philip Haddad.

Haddad wanted to pay a years-overdue parking fine, but he’d lost the ticket and didn’t remember any information, such as the year or the license plate number. He’d long since sold the car.

He e-mailed the parking division but didn’t expect a response. The next day Teresa Valle called him and spent hours trying to find his ticket information.

When their search didn’t turn up anything, Valle offered keep looking for it while Haddad went about his busy day. Within an hour, she called him back with the fine amount: $255. Haddad paid it over the phone.

“When it comes to any government office, I automatically lower my expectations,” Haddad wrote. “Needless to say, I was shocked at the level of GREAT service I received from Valle.”

Marina Mendoza
Human Resources
Because he and his wife travel so much, retiree Dison Chang suspected the city’s new AETNA Fee-for-Service would be a medical better plan for them than the Texas HealthSpring plan he now used. But he needed to know more before making the switch.

Marina Mendoza answered some of his questions and gave him AETNA’s phone number so he could get the answers she couldn’t provide. She also gave him her phone number so he could meet with her when he came back to town.

“You are so helpful,” Chang said. “I look forward to meeting you.”

Rod Newman
Human Resources
”We really appreciate Rod Newman and his staff’s help with HOPE’s information requests,” wrote Christian Phillips, political director.

Tomisha Johnson
Library
Since her first visit to the Bracewell branch, Sandra Gonzales has noticed Tomisha Johnson’s conscientious effort to make patrons feel welcome.

“I was impressed with her courteous nature, her attentiveness when assisting guests and her friendly smile,” Gonzales wrote. “She stands out as an ideal employee any business would be lucky to have.”

Mohdudul Huq
Planning & Development
Mohdudul Huq helped him outline the city limits, wrote Brian Wilson, survey manager of the Miller Survey Group.

“Your knowledge of the city annexation archives is impressive, and it was a pleasure being assisted by you.

“Keep up the good work.”

John Paul Barnich
Municipal Courts Judicial
Judge John Paul Barnich carefully listens to defendants and treats everyone in his courtroom with respect, kindness and compassion, wrote John Gilbreath. Gilbreath watched Barnich while he was waiting to go before the judge for his a traffic ticket.

“There is a sense of calm in the way he handled his job, and I felt everyone was made comfortable,” Gilbreath wrote. “In my opinion, judge Barnich is a perfect example of an excellent public servant. He’s a credit to the city and municipal courts.”
