Andrea Moore

Library
Andrea Moore has gone above and beyond her duties many times while helping him at the Mancuso branch, Jon Johnson wrote. “It is refreshing to know that genuine people still exist in today’s society.

“I’d like her to be nominated for librarian of the year.”

Brian Rodriguez, Carl Michael Rodriguez
Police
When someone tried to buy a car using a credit card over the phone, a salesman at Fred Haas Toyota was suspicious enough to call the police. Good thing he did, because when Officer Carl Rodriguez called Florencia and Norman Straub to check it out, they had no idea what he was talking about.

Someone had stolen their credit card numbers.

Rodriguez traced the call from the dealership to a motel. Because it was late at night and his shift was ending, Rodriguez’s bother, Officer Brian Rodriguez, went to the motel to investigate.

As Brian Rodriguez was looking over a car in the parking lot, a female called the front desk and asked why the police were walking around her vehicle. The clerk told Rodriguez which room the call had come from, and Rodriguez knocked on the door.

Inside the room, he discovered documents containing numerous stolen identities, including the Straubs’. According to the clerk, the woman and her male companion were scheduled to check out in the morning.

The Straubs had handed over copies of their credit cards when they’d joined a travel club two months before. The woman in that room had worked for the club, Florencia Straub wrote.

“Fortunately for us, these individuals had just begun to use our information, and we were able to cancel all fraudulent charges,” Straub wrote. “We also cancelled our agreement with the travel club and will be more cautious in the future.

“Officer Carl Michel Rodriguez went over and above his call of duty. He insisted on contacting us even after he was done with his shift and had another officer follow up on his intuitiveness, which resulted in apprehending the individuals involved. He’s definitely one of Houston’s finest.”

Susan McDowell
Public Works & Engineering
“It is rare to find someone who is nice and cares enough to go the extra mile for you on a Friday afternoon,” wrote Michelle Puckett of R and R Mechanical Systems. “But the wonderful Susan McDowell is one of those employees.”

“Being new to the HVAC industry, I wasn’t aware of the classification of licenses. Thanks to Susan, I now understand how many tons can be used on one permit – the person I was helping fell in the B classification.”

Rather than simply rejecting Puckett’s incorrect online license application, McDowell called her to explain the different classifications. This prevented a delay on an important job, Puckett wrote.

“This really touched my heart. She was so nice and patient and worked me through all the steps,” Puckett wrote. “As a result, everything worked out fantastic and in plenty of time for the weekend!”

Dayle Perry
Public Works & Engineering
“It is extremely hard to find anywhere the level of service I received from Mr. Dayle Perry,” wrote Marcia Moore. “Quality of work and employee responsibility along with pride in the job and loyalty to the employer is a thing of the past. However, I’ve rediscovered these precious qualities in Mr. Perry.”

Perry was kind, considerate, friendly and sympathetic while efficiently handling her problem, Moore wrote.

“He jumped on the problem and got it solved,” she wrote. “I did not get the runaround, I was not spoken to as if I were stupid, I was not put off to some future date whereby I would have had to call over and over again to get results.”

Joyce Wilson
Public Works & Engineering
Matthew Zeve was having a hard time getting a water service account set up for his new house. After hours on the phone with various city departments, he was told to come in and speak to a Public Works representative.

Finally, Joyce Wilson solved the problem, Zeve wrote.

“Ms. Wilson was helpful, courteous and professional while guiding me through the steps I needed to take,” he wrote.

Danny Gonzales
Public Works & Engineering
For months, Jody Wilding called Public Works asking for a new water meter cover. The broken one was a hazard. Wilding even twisted his ankle on it.

Finally, Wilding talked to Danny Gonzales. Within 24 hours, the meter had a new cover.

“They took care of it very quickly, and they put in a concrete casting so I won’t have to keep dealing with this, as it was the eighth time I’ve had to replace the cover in the past three years.”
