Empowering Houstonians
for 100 Years: 1904-2004

Director Barbara Gubbin

The Houston Public Library is preparing for a once in a lifetime celebration – “Empowering Houstonians for 100 Years: 1904-2004.” In 2004, we celebrate a century of service to Houston. City employees and their families are invited to join us in the celebration.

On Jan. 24, we will be hosting the “100 and One Big Party” to kick-off the year. A Centennial Book will be launched in May 2004, featuring a photographic history of the library. The closing event in December will include unveiling a historical marker for the library.

For now, HPL invites everyone to participate in the “Share Your Memories Campaign.” Share your memories of the library with us: funny stories, anecdotes, and other memorable events. These memories can go as far back as 1904 or be as recent as yesterday.

You may submit your memories through our Web site at www.houstonlibrary.org or through forms available at our branches.

Help us celebrate 100 years and kick-off the next century of service to Houston. I look forward to seeing each and every one of you at our libraries. And don’t forget, if you don’t have one already, get your Houston Public Library Power Card today!
