Mayor is proud to be a public servant

As I write this message for Extra Milers, I realize I have been mayor just one month. But the newness is beginning to wear off. There is so much to be done!

During Super Bowl week, the world saw us just as we are - friendly, exciting, diverse, and confident. Dozens of people told me what a great time they had in Houston during Super Bowl week. And many people told me they were surprised at what they found in Houston. Well, Houston is no longer a secret!

I am proud to serve as your mayor. Though it may not be possible to meet each city employee right away, it is my goal to meet each of you in time. No matter what our job titles are, each title should be preceded by the words "public servant."

I will work hard everyday, with city employees, to deliver more and better city services for each dollar we spend. I need your help. If we succeed, we can have extra pride in telling people we work for the city of Houston, America's great city of opportunity.
