Lynda Hughes
Convention & Entertainment Facilities
Lynda Hughes is a real asset to this city,” wrote Jon Pike. “She exhibits genuine concern and desire to solve problems.”

When people were illegally parking in front of Pike’s house, Hughes visited him to talk about the problem.

“I cannot tell you how much that meant to me,” he wrote. “What a great person to have working for the city.”

James Dining agrees.

He’s been trying unsuccessfully to get the patrons of the club on his street to stop parking in front of his house. Now, Hughes is seeing that the patrons pay for parking illegally.

“Lynda Hughes and the night parking enforcement group have been doing a very good job ticketing illegally parked vehicles,” Dinning wrote.

Blanton Daniels
Finance & Administration
A taxicab rear-ended the car Wally Newman’s wife was driving. When Newman called the cab company, he got the run-around.

So he called 311. Blanton Daniels gave him the policy number and the name of the company’s agent, Newman said. Armed with that information, he was able to get his wife’s car repaired.

“Blanton was super,” Newman said. “Without his help, we’d still have a damaged car.”

Marina Mendoza
Human Resources
“Thank you for taking time to assist me in completing the orientation process,” wrote J. Brooks. “Your compassion and kind words, and most importantly your knowledge, left me believing in the city of Houston.”

Kenishia Freeman, Alicia Garza, John Palmer, Chip Thompson
Housing & Community Development
Thanks to the work of Kenishia Freeman, Alicia Garza, and Chip Thompson, Kelly Phillips got a $19,500 grant for a down payment on her first house.

“The grant is of great consequence to her,” wrote homebroker Patricia Wydler. “Your great staff demonstrated professionalism and communicativeness.

“I highly commend Kenishia Freeman, Alicia Garza, and Chip Thompson, who are truly dedicated to the cause of lower-income first-time buyers. They represent the city well.”

Lois Falk
Library
After C. Kenneth Hoyt had visited the Kendell branch library a few times, Lois Falk had a good notion of his interests and was able to recommend books he might like.

“In 40-plus years using the Houston Public Library, I have never seen a person have the passion for her job that Lois Falk has,” Hoyt wrote. “I’m at the library at least once a week. When I watch her, it just reinforces my knowledge of her passion for her work.”

Hoyt joined the mystery book club that Falk runs. When she moved to the Looscan branch and then to the Oak Forest branch, he and many others followed her, Hoyt wrote.

Melba Pourteau
Legal
Melba Porteau is a hard worker, polite and always answers questions, wrote Wilburn Wright.

“She’s a real jewel.”

Veronica McClelland
Convention & Entertainment Facilities
Veronica McClelland is leaving quite an impression.

McClelland is an asset to the George R. Brown Convention Center, wrote the Rev. Leroy Woodard. She made the outstanding turnout from applicants, employers and the media at the City Wide Club’s annual job fair possible.

“Everything we met on was carried through to the letter and even extra,” he wrote. “Please go ahead and prepare the contracts so that we can get the date planned for 2007.”

Navaz Ghaswala of Forever Living Products is another McClelland fan.

There were many details to be handled at the International Super Rally, and McClelland took care of each of them, Ghaswala wrote.

“Thanks, and I hope to have the pleasure of working with you again.”
