Sgt. Robert Ruiz and officers Jesse Cantu, Richard Trejo and Al Yanez played a basketball game against the teachers at Lyons Elementary to raise money for the United Way, wrote Myra Stuart. The game raised more than $800.

“I’m truly thankful these men were able to make time for Lyons Elementary,” Stuart wrote. “These are very caring and giving men as well as officers. They care about the children beyond the normal call of duty.”

Antonio Valencia’s flight into Houston was delayed and the directions to his hotel were inaccurate, leaving him, his wife and their son, who uses a wheelchair, lost.

Hoping for directions, Valencia’s wife waved down officers D.L. Jensen and P.G. Villanueva. The officers explained that the family was farther from their hotel than they thought. So Jensen and Villanueva order a lift-equipped taxi.

While they waited, Officer E.J. Srebalus arrived. After it became clear that no taxi was coming, the three officers loaded the heavy motorized chair and the family into their two patrol cars and took the family to the hotel.

“What a magnificent organization yours must be if these officers are representative of it,” Valencia wrote.
