Round-the-clock hosts strive to go beyond the conventional

Director, C&EF
Dawn Ullrich

The Convention & Entertainment Facilities Department manages some of Houston’s most-recognized landmarks. Every year, more than 2 million visitors walk through the doors of the George R. Brown Convention Center, Wortham Center, Jones Hall, Miller Outdoor Theatre and a host of other properties. More than 4,000 people entrust their vehicles to our parking facilities every day.

With that much company arriving at our doorstep on a daily basis, we consider ourselves to be round-the-clock hosts. Our responsibilities are anything but run-of-the-mill. Our staff puts in a lot of extra miles, often working nights and weekends to ensure smooth operation of conventions, theater events and the like. We could not satisfy our clients and our patrons if customer service were anything but a top priority.

Delivering outstanding customer service is not only one of our guiding principles, it also makes good business sense. As an enterprise fund department, part of our budget is contingent upon repeat business to perpetuate our existing revenue streams. We realize that our guests have a choice about where to spend their entertainment dollar, and few will make a premium outlay for long if they receive subpar treatment in return. We simply cannot afford to take them for granted.

I am proud of the Convention & Entertainment Facilities Department staff for the good foot it puts forward on behalf of the city and all its employees. We practice Southern hospitality with a cosmopolitan twist every day.
