Maryam Sharif
Human Resources
When Maryam Sharif says she’ll call back with an answer, she always does in a timely manner, wrote Pamela Jenkins.

“Ms. Sharif is polite and goes beyond the call of duty,” Jenkins wrote. “She always follows up with me so I don’t have to with her.

“Ms. Sharif’s professionalism and commitment to performing her job to the best of her ability is commendable.”

Gina Flores
Public Works & Engineering
For months, Gina Flores monitored Helen Washington’s water meter readings and made the necessary adjustments to the bill.

“I realize it’s your job, but you were always kind, patient, and showed empathy for the situation,” Washington wrote.

“Although each of us goes through rough patches and bumps on life’s road, it helps when someone is there to smooth out some of those bumps along the way.”

Crystal Day
Finance & Administration
A rotten utility pole near her house was being held up by a rope tied around a nearby tree, wrote Druella Mays. CenterPoint and AT&T denied responsibility for the pole, and neither would send a crew to fix it.

Mays called Crystal Day, who called CenterPoint and AT&T. Soon, the pole was replaced, Mays wrote.

“You are one of Houston’s finest city assistants,” she wrote. “Your calls meant a lot. They let me know that you really cared about my problem and the runaround I was getting.

“You’re welcome to call and chat with me anytime. I just like the way you spoke to me.”

Gloria Dawson
Public Works & Engineering
Every time Mr. Air Air Conditioning has a problem with online permits, they call Gloria Dawson. And Dawson never blows hot air their way.

“She’s always very helpful and courteous,” wrote Elveda. “Every year, our appreciation for Ms. Dawson grows.”

Blanca Fuerte
Public Works & Engineering
“It was a privilege being waited on by Blanca Fuerte,” said Glenda Davis. “She was very professional, courteous and positive.

“The city made a good choice by having Blanca as an employee.”

Timothy Warren
Affirmative Action
Every year, the task of getting re-certified as a woman business enterprise gets more difficult, wrote Janet Wagner of J.K. Wagner & Co. So Timothy Warren was a big asset when the company applied for re-certification.

“It is extremely refreshing to find a city employee like you, who excels in helping others and approaches his job with such satisfaction,” Wagner wrote. “I am grateful that the city has you working for it, and I hope that other employees are like you.”
