Lasso better healthy by joining the Texas Round-up

Need a break? Mayor Bill White challenges you to get up and get active.

It's time for the third annual Texas Round-Up, a statewide effort to encourage Texans to incorporate daily physical activity and healthy choices into their lives. City of Houston employees are encouraged to join the fun while lassoing better health.

The Texas Round-Up Web site helps participants begin an online training program to track their progress, as well as access training tips and advice.

It's easy to get started:

  • Commit to 30 minutes of activity a day, five days a week for six weeks.
  • Go to www.texasroundup.org and click on Join Texas Round-up Activity Program Today!
  • Create a log-in by filling in the form, and click on Save My Info.
  • Choose a team, create a team or click on Skip if you'd like to participate as an individual.
  • Click on Activity Log to begin logging your activities online.

Activities can include gardening, riding a bike or playing chase with your kids or pets.

Or, when you just can't take staring at your screen any longer, use your 15-minute breaks, or 30 minutes of your lunch break, to take a walk. Besides adding miles for the Round-up, your eyes will get a break from the computer screen and your mind a break from work, allowing you to return recharged.
