Employee assistance program counselors
are hear for you

Life can be difficult. Pressures are constant and stress is plentiful. Usually, people manage on their own. But sometimes a skilled professional can help by giving direction and support.

For that reason, the city of Houston provides the Employee Assistance Program, a free and confidential service to help you and your family deal with personal problems and sources of stress.

EAP offers assessments and referrals, short-term consultations, crisis intervention and training for employees and supervisors.

EAP counselors specialize in helping people solve problems. They are licensed professionals who are trained to work with families and with chemical dependency. Above all, they enjoy working with people and are good listeners. Because they’re also city employees, they understand the pressures city employees experience.

Each month in the Benefits Pulse, an EAP counselor will discuss an important issue affecting city employees and give guidance on dealing with the issue. If you have a question or to suggest a subject, e-mail hrenewsletter@cityofhouston.net to ask a counselor.

For more information about EAP, visit www.houstontx.gov/hr/eappages/eap.htm. For an appointment, call (713) 866-4242 Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. For emergencies, call this 24-hour number anytime.
