Q: I received information in the mail from BlueCross and BlueShield of Texas on their new vision provider, Davis Vision. Were my vision benefits also changed?

A: On Jan. 1, BlueCross BlueShield changed its vision provider for HMO members from ColeVision to Davis Vision. Your vision coverage is the same with some added extras. Davis Vision offers a Value-Added discount program for services beyond the covered benefits and a larger network of independent providers as well as providers like Wal-Mart and Eye Masters.

See the next question for a description of discounts. Pearle Optical, Sears and JC Penney are not in the Davis network yet.

Q: I’m in the PPO and I know the plan does not provide vision benefits, but are there any discount programs available?

A: Although the PPO plan does not provide vision benefits, the Davis Vision Value-Added discount program was introduced in January and is available to both PPO and HMO members. The Davis Vision Value-Added discount program includes discounts on all vision services, a mail-order contact lens replacement program and discounts on laser vision correction.
