Salary Administration

Welcome to the Salary Administration Division of Human Resources. This division is responsible for the design, implementation, revision and general maintenance of the City’s compensation programs, classification system and pay structure as required by Chapter 14.

There are currently 706 job classifications and 40 pay grades. It is the responsibility of the Salary Administration Division to ensure that each classification is assigned the proper pay grade. This is accomplished through market analyses, surveys and through the exchange of information with external organizations. It is also the responsibility of Salary Administration to recognize the need for and to create new classifications in response to a rapidly changing work environment. This is done in partnership with the departments of the City of Houston. Many departments consult with Salary Administration to determine whether new classifications are needed or if a current classification can be revised to fit the needs of its employees.

Performance Management


Records Management

The Records Management Division of the Human Resources Department is responsible for the creation, maintenance, updating and archiving of personnel files for all City of Houston Employees.  These files are used to keep a record of all employment related documents for each employee of the City of Houston, including original employment applications, salary recommendation information, Employee Performance Evaluation, disciplinary actions, etc.  Below are the three primary functions of the Record Division.

Employment Verification

Due to sensitivity of the information requested, there is currently not an online employment verification process. 

To verify the employment dates and job title information of a past or current City of Houston employee please call (713) 837-9497. For more detailed information, please send a written request stating the information needed to the address above.

Requests to View Personnel Files

Employees may view their individual file by completing a Request to View a Personnel Record form.  You must bring this form to the Records Division at 611 Walker, Garden Level, Houston, TX 77002 between the hours of 8:30 and 3:30, Monday through Friday. There are also instances when Human Resources Personnel may complete a Log Out Request to view an employee file. Records Management personnel use these forms to track and maintain all files.

Public Inquiries

The Records Division is also responsible for complying with the Public Information Act and responding to public inquiries concerning employees with the City of Houston.
