A New Year, new library service hours
HPL is starting off the new year with exciting news – expanded schedules at branch locations. Added morning and evening hours will mean additional access to services and programs. Extended library hours start Jan. 3. Visit www.houstonlibrary.org for your local library’s new hours.
No strings attached
The library offers free wireless Internet access at all 36 neighborhood locations, the HPL Express Downtown in the Julia Ideson Building and the Clayton Library, Center for Genealogical Research located in the museum district. Customers can access the Internet, including the library’s electronic resources, with their wireless-ready laptop or PDAs. For those who don’t own a laptop, some neighborhood libraries check out laptops to clients for use at the library. To find the branch near you, call (832) 393-1313 or visit www.houstonlibrary.org.
Thanking you for your public service
Public Service Recognition Week was in May, but some local venues and sports teams recognize city employees year-round. The Rockets tip off the new season Nov. 4, and the team is hosting six City of Houston nights. Employees can buy group-rate tickets to the games, including opening night against the Dallas Mavericks.
The Houston Ballet is offering city employees discounted tickets to the Nutcracker. For information on these and other events, click here.
Join the club

NeoGov goes live
Applicants for city jobs can now apply electronically. NeoGov, an online system that automates the hiring process, allows applicants to create an account and save and edit their applications. Also, applicants can check their application status by logging onto their account. In addition, a new paper application form is available. Old forms will not be accepted after Oct. 31. All paper forms must be filled out in blue ink. To view the city’s employment opportunities and get started in the online application process, visit www.houstontx.gov/jobs.html.
