Two weeks, two great causes
Arson Awareness Week starts May 6. The week is set aside to create recognition, awareness and understanding of arson and to encourage communities to get involved in sharing arson information.
Then, celebrate Emergency Medical Services week May 20-26. EMS week brings together local communities and medical personnel to publicize safety and to honor those who provide the lifesaving services of medicine’s “front line.” This information can be used throughout the year for public education and safety programs. For more information on these weeks, visit www.houstontx.gov/fire.
Sail away with some good books

For details visit your neighborhood library, www.houstonlibrary.org, or call (832) 393-1313.
Much better than the movie “Waterworld”
At the 14th annual city of Houston Water Festival May 10 at the Downtown Aquarium, 50 local, county and regional environmental agencies and nonprofit organizations will provide hands-on activities and materials for all ages. The city will also introduce The Water Works: Museum + Education Center and begin accepting school group reservations for the 2008 school year. The water festival and The Water Works are coordinated by the drinking water operations branch of the Public Works & Engineering Department.
Mark your calendars and bring a friend to find out about the city’s drinking water operations and discover how to protect Houston’s water resources.
