I'm flexible
Dave Schafer test drives three flexible work schedules Online exclusive

"Human Pretzel," by Kreg Yingst

For one glorious day, I worked in pajamas and bare feet. No hair gel, no dress shirt, and no tie clutching at my windpipe.

I officially declared March my flextime month, trying different flex schedules in ancillary to the City Savvy story I’m writing.

The first week, I worked four 10s and took one day off. Then I worked nine-80s, taking off a Monday and working 80 hours over the remaining nine days. Last, I worked at my home office, barefoot and busy.

I learned some important lessons that reinforced what I’d been told during interviews for the Savvy story. Some of what I discovered was surprising, and some of it could help you if you’re considering a flex schedule.

Here’s what I learned.
