Real men wear pink
The Fire Department encourages you to wear pink Oct. 25-27 in support of the “Cares Enough to Wear Pink” campaign. The campaign is part of the Pink Ribbon Tour, a group of firefighters, police officers and community leaders who joined together to raise awareness about the fight against breast cancer. Annual FireFest
The 2008 FireFest, also known as the Fire Muster, will be 10 a.m. – 4 p.m. Oct. 25 at the Houston Fire Department’s training academy, 8030 Braniff. The fun-filled event is open to the public. Admission and parking are free. For more information, visit www.houstonfiremuseum.org.

Discount tickets
It’s basketball season, and you can take in some games at discounted prices. Heartwalk

I heart this walk
On Nov. 1, Public Works & Engineering Director Mike Marcotte will lead the 2008 Houston Heart Walk at Sam Houston Park. The event draws attention to walking as a way to get and keep heathy hearts. Registration starts at 8 a.m., and the five-mile walk begins at 9:30 a.m. Join PWE by going online at www.houstonheartwalk.org.
