501 - CARRYING OF WEAPONS
This policy prohibits employees from the possession and transporting of dangerous weapons while on duty on city property and while using a city/personal vehicle to conduct city business. CHAPTER 14, SECTION 184 --

502 - COURTESY TO PUBLIC
It is the policy of the City of Houston to provide its citizens with the best possible service. Employees are expected to treat citizens and all members of the public in a courteous, respectful manner at all times.
503 - PERSONAL TELEPHONE CALLS AND MAIL
This policy describes the business use only of the City's communication systems (telephone and mail). Addresses employee responsibilities, personal limitations on use and restrictions to avoid interruption in the daily flow of business.
504 - EMPLOYEE DISCIPLINE
This policy outlines the major steps that should occur when unethical, inappropriate employee conduct or performance below standard performance occurs in the work place.
3-7 - POSITIVE CORRECTIVE DISCIPLINE PROGRAM
This Administrative Procedure gives Department Directors the authority to develop and implement a customized positive corrective discipline program for their department.
8-2 - PROCEDURE ON ELECTONIC MAIL COMMUNICATIONS
This procedure identifies the process and responsibilities for users who are provided access to the City of Houston electronic messaging system.
601 - FUNERAL LEAVE
This policy allows employees up to three (3) days paid leave after a death in the immediate family. The policy identifies who shall be considered as “immediate family” and addresses certain exceptions. CHAPTER 14, SECTION 171 -- This section addresses death in the immediate family and also includes leave with pay for permanent employees.
602 - ATTENDANCE
This policy generally categorizes time away from work and defines excused and unexcused absences related to attendance.
603 - COURT RELATED ABSENCES
This policy covers the steps required by City of Houston employees to be paid for Jury Service/Subpoenas and other court ordered appearances related directly or indirectly to city business or the employees role as a city employee.
604 - ATTENDANCE AND PUNCTUALITY
This policy requires employees to report to work at scheduled work times and report unanticipated absences or delays in reporting to work to their supervisor.
605 - INCLEMENT WEATHER
This policy discusses timely communication between the Mayor and City of Houston employees regarding inclement weather.
2-3 - SEVERE WEATHER AND OTHER EMERGENCY CONDITIONS
The procedure provides a detailed description that applies to all City of Houston employees and their responsibilities during inclement weather or other emergency situations.
606 - LUNCH AND REST BREAKS
This policy explains the location, time of day and duration of lunch and rest breaks for full-time and part-time employees.
1-34 - FAMILY AND MEDICAL LEAVE
This executive order defines the policy and procedure of the City of Houston with regard to family and medical leave required by the Family and Medical Leave Act (FMLA) of 1993.
701 - RESIGNATION
This policy requires employees who voluntarily resign from city employment provide prior written notice to their supervisor or department head. CHAPTER 14, SECTION 150 -- This section generally covers the same resignation rules in Mayor's Policy 701.
