CITY OF HOUSTON A FINALIST IN 2001 BEST OF THE WEB CONTEST
Center for Digital Government Places www.cityofhouston.gov in the Sweet 16 of Outstanding Local Government Web Sites

Home Page Graphic Dear Houston,

We have worked hard during the last year to improve our technology services for all our citizens. Houston is one of the top cities in the country in both technological advancement and access to the Internet.

I’m proud to say our efforts have paid off with national recognition.

Co-sponsored by the Center for Digital Government and Government Technology magazine, this year’s annual Best of the Web Contest attracted entries from close to 400 state and local government websites.

Houston was one of only two Texas cities to be recognized as a finalist, based on four categories: (1) Innovation and use of Web-based online technology to deliver government services, (2) Efficiency or time saved, (3) Economy or money saved, and (4) Functionality (ease of use) and improved citizen access.

Best of Web GraphicWe strive to improve the services the City already offers as well as identify new ways to serve you better. In an era where technology is the norm instead of the exception, providing these services online makes sense. Soon at the www.cityofhouston.gov Houston eGovernment Center you will be able to pay your water bills and parking tickets online, and we’ll stand ready to provide you access from home “online instead of in line”.
