The Information Technology Department (ITD) was created in 2003 to improve the IT organization throughout the City; to leverage emerging technologies to reduce cost, limit growth in the workforce and improve services to citizens and employees.

ORGANIZATION
ITD is led by the Director of Information Technology and Chief Information Officer (CIO) Richard Lewis, with input from the City of Houston's IT Advisory Board. A Technology Steering Committee (TSC), which is comprised of the Director/CIO, the Citywide Chief Technology Officer (CTO) and executive level management from departments with significant IT involvement designate as CTOs, provide a forum for budget management including multiyear planning, coordinating funding for citywide and department projects as well as fostering good communications on current year budget management.

The TSC consists of nine departments: Police, Public Works and Engineering, Houston Airport System, Health and Human Services, Library, Municipal Courts Administration, Information Technology, Planning and Houston Emergency Center.
