MEMORIAL FUND ESTABLISHED FOR FAMILY OF VICTOR ESCOBAR
November 7, 2002 -- A memorial fund has been established to benefit the family of a worker who died in an accidental fall at Jones Hall.
Victor M. Escobar, 40, a licensed asbestos worker employed by Certified/LVI Environmental Services, Inc., was performing asbestos containment from a scaffold in the attic of Jones Hall Tuesday morning when he apparently fell from his position and broke through the marble floor and fell 55 feet, landing on the sidewalk scaffolding near the corner of Louisiana and Texas. He was pronounced dead at the scene by attending medical personnel.
Certified/LVI has established a memorial fund at Wells Fargo Bank under the name of William F. Wallace III/Victor Escobar Memorial Fund (#9696025304). Those wishing to contribute may call Diana Duty at 281/633-7919.
The Occupational Safety and Health Administration investigated the accident Tuesday and determined there were no grounds for ordering a suspension of work at the job site. Certified/LVI is conducting an internal investigation to determine the cause of the accident.
