BROWN BAGS AND BONGOS AT JONES HALL ON APRIL 5
Department Co-Sponsoring Free Percussion Concert by Houston Symphony

March 22, 2005 -- The lobby of Jones Hall will reverberate to the sounds of the Houston Symphony's percussion section with a free concert beginning at noon on April 5.

Using some 50 different instruments, from tin cans to triangles, and from sandpaper to steel drums, Brian Del Signore, Mark Griffith and Matthew Strauss will make melodies and rhythms, as well as exotic sounds from around the world. Some surprise guests will also be on hand.

The performance is free! Bring your lunch and sit outside on the patio, or come into the lobby. If you don't have your own brown bag, lunch will be available for purchase (submarine sandwiches - buy it by the inch!)

The concert is co-sponsored by the City of Houston Convention & Entertainment Facilities Department.

The Jones Hall performance kicks off a series of 12 Community Connections events in a 15-day period. Community Connections is a year-round program wherein members of the Symphony volunteer to go into the community in a variety of ensembles and perform in hospitals, community centers, schools, and shelters.
