BROWN BAGS AND BASSES AT JONES HALL ON MARCH 21
Department Co-Sponsoring Free Concert by Houston Symphony
February 24, 2006 -- The lobby of Jones Hall will reverberate to the sounds of members of the Houston Symphony’s bass section with a free concert beginning at noon on March 21.
Principal bass Timothy Pitts, Eric Larson, Donald Howey and Burke Shaw will perform as part of Houston Symphony’s Community Connections program. They will be joined by members of Houston City Council in an event geared toward the entire family.
The performance is free. Bring your lunch and sit outside on the patio or in the lobby. If you don’t have your own brown bag, lunch will be available for purchase (submarine sandwiches – buy it by the inch!)
The concert is co-sponsored by the City of Houston Convention & Entertainment Facilities Department.
Community Connections is an important component of the Houston Symphony’s outreach program and provides opportunities to hear the musicians in close, personal settings. From September to May ensembles reach out, performing at hospitals, senior centers, schools and neighborhood venues. Members volunteer their time and talents to provide these services at no cost to the community.
