General Info

Jones Plaza at NightGENERAL INFO

Jones Plaza has a long history as downtown Houston's outdoor centerpiece, dating to its construction in 1966. The plaza is one block square across the streets from both Jones Hall and Alley Theatre in the heart of the Theater District. It is bounded on the north and south by Texas and Capitol avenues and on the east and west by Louisiana and Smith streets.

Jones Plaza is now more accessible and more suitable for everyday use by the general public after renovations. Culminating 15 months of construction, Jones Plaza was reopened prior to the Thanksgiving Parade in 2001 after a $6.5 million facelift funded by the City of Houston.

User-friendly features at Jones Plaza include pedestrian ramps, a permanent stage, concession facilities and restrooms. The property also features five shade-providing canopies, a fountain and healthy, young Mexican sycamore trees.

While familiar as a popular site for concerts and other outdoor events, such as festivals and pep rallies, it is less widely known that Jones Plaza is ideal for corporate functions, civic events, religious meetings, crawfish boils, chess tournaments, family reunions and anything else that an organization can conceive for the great outdoors.

Jones Plaza hosts free concerts on many Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday evenings. Go to www.houstontx.gov and click the Calendar of Events for more information.
